Recreational travel is one of the stupidest things. I can spend money were i live and have 10 times the fun.
I guess it just factors in how much travel you do as a kid. I spent alot of time on the road when I was younger and can't stand it. Move here for work, go there for work, live here for work, travel there for work. The best thing I can do to feel comfortable is be planted in one spot and never mover like a tree. I imagine its the opposite with people that spend their childhoods couped up in the same neighborhood until they find their way out of the house as adults.

How exactly does one "identify" themselves as a senator in that situation.
He was definitely out of line and I dont see what his problem was, but the first thing he said was his name and that he was a senator. It doesn't really matter either way. Even if he did identify himself.
