If it's intended by Bandai, I usually don't mind for the most part. The series has always had tricks to them that aren't a part of the core loop but intended mechanics, and clock pause and Western pausing are some of them. It's essentially the black and white LCD counterpart to the color era's sitter.
Loosely related to that, but there is one trick that was intended back in the Keitama era that actually did get patched out in the Connection remake, and that was the ability to bring back parents that left their child. If you turn the clock back before midnight before the solo baby wakes up, your parent Tamagotchi will come back and you can keep them around for longer. In the remake, the clock is now locked the instant the parent leaves their child, so you can't turn back the clock to recover them, and also have to wait the full midnight->morning hours to raise the next generation. The only way to recover the parent if you accidentally let them leave is to press the reset button.
It's definitely a strange thing to patch when mechanics like "Sleep Raising", where you can cheese growths by letting your Tamagotchi sleep throughout its entire childhood and teen phase, is still left in (and also intended back then too, since it was mentioned in the official Chibitama/Tamagotchi Mini guide)
