>plus the game bridges Ocarina of Time to previous Zelda games by showing Ganondorf becoming Ganon for the first time in the timeline
It's always funny when people pretend Nintendo never cared about the timeline, or at the very least in broad strokes. From the second Zelda 2 existed and it was established to be a direct sequel with the same Link and Zelda, a timeline was established. Then in the manual for Link to the Past you find out Ganon used to be a human named Ganondorf. Then in OoT you finally meet said Ganondorf, King of Thieves. Then, Wind Waker and Twilight Princess each follow one of OoT's two Fallen Hero is stupid timeline splits with a Ganondorf that's had time to reflect and somewhat chill out and another one whose's imprisonment made him even more mad and confrontational. Even Skyward Sword, mid as it is, introduced the concept of Demise.
That build up is something TotK not only lacks, but outright kills. BotW got away with it by setting itself at the very end of known history and alluding to vague lore to interest YouTube autists but they then wrote Ganondorf into TotK and expanded on the Zonai... and didn't stick the landing.
