Simply put, it's the freedom of exploration. You can climb just about any cliff face with the right approach, and then heading to your next landmark is as simple as gliding down. The game gives me a similar feeling to when I was a kid and I'd start up SM64 and run around a completed level to see if I could find any hidden secrets. BotW doesn't really have any big rewards in well hidden places, but money, weapons, or just a neat secluded area in the mountains is enough to keep me exploring.
