Umamusume was created by Akihiro Ishihara, who is also the creator of the Idolmaster series. In turn, he created Idolmaster when Namco asked him to develop an arcade competitor to Sega's popular Derby Owners Club, an arcade horse raising simulator.
Umamusume is basically him going full circle, combining both idols and horses in a single raising sim.
