Hobbies weren't enough for me so I got into investing. Boring? Mind-melting? Sure. But seeing less than 1K bloom into over 40K is pretty cool (and that's while playing it safe).
Of course it's not just about luxuries and experiencing more of the world. Definitely helps to prepare more for potential economic events/natural disasters, when combined with research into the history of such things in your area. Being able to feel safer in this world is nice.
