The only impediment to a job where you have some degree of cover is they don’t like when people have an established work history in the IC. Example it would be hard to go from a uniformed SPO to a Directorate of Ops job bc now your background and biometrics are associated with your past agency job. When I started as an Ops contractor we shared a vault with a team where the SSO’s did foreign service training. Had a nice room of MP5’s and 7’s.
It’s best to think what directorate l you’re interested in and get in that way. Like if you want to be on DPS detail, you can come on as a security professional and work your way up. I was one of the only ones to basically come in off the street and go on the detail. GRS is direct hired for their skill set but their are GRS agents who started as uniformed SPO’s etc.
