Deception as a weapon doesn't help when the deception is self-inflicted. For instance Operation Fortitude was a clever deception shilling that an entire army group was where it wasn't; but a Middle Eastern style deception would be Churchill proclaiming "We don't need to evacuate Dunkirk because Paris already repulsed the Wehrmacht assault"
