I loathe VRC. It does something to people. If you are a lonely thirty-something year old person and you get on VRC, there is a genuine risk of becoming so attached to it that you prefer it over the real world. You will make friends and form connections, but it will be all persona. But the digital persona will be reinforced with fake perceptions, and you will grow to prefer these over the real world. I have seen so multiple people become NEETs and shut-ins who spend 12+ hours a day on VRChat because they were dysfunctional in some way and came to prefer spending time in VRChat over trying to fix their own issues. The way that it takes vulnerable people and makes them fall in love with simulacra makes me feel like it is unironically satanic. Human beings were not meant to have this level of escapism, where we can completely replace our bodies and fully immerse ourselves in fantasy.
