They've been trained as military when mankind was rationing everything,
They arrive in a post-scarcity world where the arms-race led to them being replaced by sentient combat robot made in their images.

And the hive-mind alien enemies? Now friends for half a century,
MCs refuse to believe the hivemind was afraid of mankind multitude (& lack of self-control) and isn't planning to destroy mankind again.
