The anime did add a sub-plot where slacking off on taking jobs got Konoha an intimidating warning from the organization. Obviously there are discrepancies from the manga (such as bunny assassin's fate), but it does get across that the organization likely doesn't fuck around.

Checked the anime for comparison and it does look like they made everyone in the café area female in that at least (give or take one with short hair that's obscured by Kuro so it isn't very clear).
