SH should have leaned in a bit more on the insecurities, the anxiousness and the fear that a father experiences when their child is kidnapped.
It would have felt more impactful and would have been more memorable that way. To me anyway.

This is a perfectly rational situation. You don't need to see Pan and Gohan talk 24/7 to know that they interacted multiple times given they live with Videl in one same house. It doesn't feel like an asspull to me or anything.

The manga doesn't go into SoL mode at any point, perhaps it's a bit too straightforward in that regard.
