>About to play this for the first time, should i play the new "enhanced" editions that came out recently or will it rob me of the originally intended sovl?
No, they will.
Play the original game with the ZRP patch.
>also ive heard that i should play on master difficulty even though its first time because the damage is busted on the other difficulties
Complete horseshit and one of the most long-standing myths from the English speaking community of STALKER.
Difficulty doesn't change enemy HP or bullet penetration, it's a bit complex but you can easily play the game on novice or master, depending on your general feeling with the game.
You can swap difficulty at any time, and as someone that has played the game a hundred times over I recommend playing on Veteran, since a lot of stuff will oneshot you on Master and frustrate you to no end, unless you absolutely love to quicksave every 10 meters.
>what am i in for?
Pure slav jank that quickly becomes on of the most atmospheric survival horror games ever made.
At the cost of being called a royal faggot nigger by everyone itt, play the trilogy if you want but if you can't manage, don't feel bad about it and look for the modernized versions of the game, which may or may not be your jam since most of them are super-hardcore modpacks that on top of having cool graphix and polish, they're meant for veterans of the franchise and milsim larping faggots (like me).
Pic related, probably the most famous (and hated) one.
