It's not just Kubo's baby anymore. It doesn't matter if he planned another thing, because Shueisha and Shitrrot would push for the same garbage that ruined the last few arcs of the manga anyway (AKA more endless fights for the Gotei captains to look cool on with zero narrative weight whatsoever), and he'd have to cave to at least some of the demands or he'd risk not getting at least part of what he initially actually cared to do out there in the anime/movie, or worse, wouldn't get a chance to draw a new manga with that editorial should he wanted to. Such is the horseshit world of the anime/manga creative industry, no one wants to burn any bridges.
