The political messages are timeless. They will always work. It was hardly tied into anything specific about Obama's years. Nothing ever really changes enough for the stories not to work. Great writing works that way. You can look for whatever parallels you think are in any given series and see them if you want. Doesn't mean much. If anything The Wire only grows in appreciation the more time goes by. More and more audiences are introduced and it has waves of new popularity.
