It's pretty early to say for certain but I do agree that Otr so far looks a bit too laidback.
Continuing with the comparison other anons brought up, kimetsu is much more old school, where the early chapters all revolved around the themes such as responsibility, owning up to one's beliefs and standing up against senseless evil.
This happens multiple times throughout the start and training arc:
>Tomioka tests Tanjiro's willpower, because wishes alone won't save anyone
>Urokodaki criticises Tanjiro's indecisiveness and Sabito beats it out of him
In the first 5 chapters Tanjiro learns to shed the young boy and to become a man who can shoulder the responsibility of saving his sister and avenging his family. This pairs up well with the more gorey aspects and is elevated by the esoteric feel of the whole setting.
On the other hand Otr has to learn NOT to let resolve and duty weigh him down because their power system relies on a balance of tension and relaxedness.

There's plenty of similar comparisons that highlight the contrast between the two series:
>Tanjiro leaves home because they are murdered and Nezuko is transformed into a demon
>Otr leaves home because he was asked to be a military cook and he said yes
>at the end of chapter 1 in kny, Tanjiro and Nezuko's life is spared and a shred of hope is given to his cause
>at the end of chapter 1 in otr, Otr gets the power that could save the world
>on chapter 2, Tanjiro has a trial by fire against a demon
>on the other hand Otr's resolve is put to the test by a frozen port he was told he can away from
>to prove he's worth being trained, Tanjiro has to rush down a mountain covered in traps at night, in the fog, by dawn
>on the other hand Otr proves his worth by warming up a bath and stating he's not willing to die for his cause
