re: hands, yeah at least the AP hands seem to be fairly roughly spun cast — I mean sure it's probably not reasonable to expect cleaner hollow areas given how small they are, but it does explain the difference between two hands of the same mold
I've found just twisting the ones I have isn't sufficient, they tend to pop back in place
seen at least one person mod the paddles into pegs so they can rotate properly
