It’s possible for you to imagine the reason why this scroll is so important, but it’s better to learn the truth from the people involved. Besides, Jielun hasn’t been as bad as he could’ve been after losing the race. So why not learn more? You’re not in a rush.
“I don’t want to interrupt your viewing experience, but why is your collection in peril?” You ask with genuine concern. “What’s in the scroll?”
“A blessing and a curse in one. For my boss, that is. And by extension, myself. His downfall will end the clan as we know it, and when the clan falls, my peaceful days will follow.” Jielun lingers his eyes on you. “Chef, you don’t want me to spoil the grand surprise, do you?”
“I’d be happy if you facilitate the process though.” You feel a little lazy.
“Then allow me to direct this scene...” Jielun turns off the TV and walks over to the secret bathroom. Above the toilet, he opens a cabinet with the mysterious scroll in it. “All yours to look at.”
“What’s this? Is this his hit list?” You wonder, Mama Bodil doubted it is, but... One side of the Scroll is written in old Prancijanian, the penmanship looks ancient. The other side is a spreadsheet full of names, dates, and other meandering details that don’t quite connect with you, unless it’s an accounting record of sorts.
“You saw this twist coming, Chef?! What an avid observer!” Jielun laughs. You guess Mama Bodil was wrong, or there’s something more to it. “If you’re aware of Gianluigi Youhao’s exploits, you can puzzle this on your own. But to make this clear to the viewers at home, this is a record from his old assassin firm, one that worked for wealthy clients all around the globe. All attempts — successful or not — were carried out in Prancijan from a certain period of time until fairly recently. Time wise, it should track with his recent takeover of the Clan.”
“Meaning?” You raise an eyebrow.
“Close to a year ago.” Jielun smirks. “Peruse through it, and you’ll realize it implicates almost all influential people in this country, and some abroad. Both as targets and clients. It’s the only time a document of this importance has ever leaked from this agency. It makes Youhao immune to everything.”
“This is insane…” You look concerned. “How is he even alive…?” You think he has the biggest target on his back.
“He’s a sly man. This was years in the making, he bought all the assassins from the agency within the country to his side, took down other threats, and to ensure his safety, made a ‘no aggression’ pact with those implicated in the scroll.” Jielun explains. “It was all quite amusing to watch.”
“Thanks for the explanation though. As some sort of way to pay you back, I know someone who will be happy to store your collection.” You say! Craig will love these!
“Huh?! You’re helping me with that?!” Jielun is genuinely shocked.
