Nazis were working on numerous "wunderwaffen" in the latter days of the war and chief among them was Die Glocke (The Bell). Some high ranking nazis like Himler even were convinced that these wonder weapons would help them win the war at the last minute.
Of course that didn't happen, but by continuing to fight, the nazi soldiers bought the elite leadership time to prepare for the post-war peace. They were able to make plans for many of them to escape to Argentina and they were able to decide how much information and technology to reveal to American and Soviet victors and how much to keep hidden amongst the breakaway group that continued to exist after WWII. They lost the war, but there's a strong argument that they won the peace afterwards
