Two listens, and I like this a lot less than the 90-91 material. I'm not quite at the "I hate this shit" stage, but I can't compliment it much beyond the technical display in itself, and the tracks which had better versions on the '91 demo. Beyond the vocoded vocals (which don't even get used often enough to become reluctantly tolerated), so much of it is just so humanist and "enlightened" and so... "prog". Frequent interruptions of metal momentum into ornate rock, often with noodly bass sections.
I'm sure metal this proggy yet (distantly) related to death metal was novel, but it is far more often timely than timeless. It makes Individual Thought Patterns sound like Breeding the Spawn.
