Thorfinn is a massive hypocrite and is literally proven to be so in his own fucking story.
He goes to Vinland to create his harmonious paradise, which only survives in the first place because he's fled from any contact with others whatsoever. Then as soon as new people come into contact with him and his tribe, the only reason relations don't deteriorate is because his own strength deters aggression.
And as soon as he realizes the depths of his own hypocrisy and becomes so totally unwilling to use ANY sort of physical deterrence to prevent strife, internal or external, conflict becomes inevitable and relations predictably break down into war.
And his grand solution? Run away, again.
"Nobody is my enemy" is only functional as an ideology while you have the strength to destroy anybody who would disagree with you, and prevent bad actors from abusing good will. Its literally just game theory.
Frieren's interpretation of demon's and the necessary solution is overly simplistic, yes, but it is correct in its ultimate conclusion: When you are faced with an antagonist that is demonstrably incapable of any other strategy besides defection, cooperation becomes impossible, and the only solution is separation or extinction.
Its really not that difficult to understand.
