first game or series as a whole?
the story if you look at the series collectively is a fucking mess because every new entry decides to arbitrarily contradict something that was firmly established in the previous. (Dream Drop Distance was the unredeemable pit of this series story telling and it's never recovered)
If you ask two people the plot of KH1 where Person A has played only the 1st game and Person B has play the series you will get different answers around events that happen because bullshit writing.
EX: Person A would tell you Sora got the keyblade because it chose him and it is a sentient weapon that chooses who can wield it, Person B will tell you Sora has it because of events that happened in Birth by Sleep.
The further you dig into the series the more you have to accept "yeah this thing that was definitively communicated to me can change on a whim because the writing room in a newer game decided so"
The plot of KH barely keeps it together from KH1 - KH2, anything afterwards is mindfuckery
