I honestly think the most dificult element indies struggle is to not understand how to make a combat fun, and how to make the non combat interesting and how to keep a player interested for longer than 5 hours of play.
They tend to focus mostly on combat, but leave no thoughts to the rest of elements.
Also agdg tends to focus a lot of the quality of the assets, meanwhile that's not the most important thing of a game.
