Can we make an uncensored decentralized internet using ham radio tech?

It would be pretty slow, but I am sure it can be done.

nope, good range = shit bandwidth. best we can do is a glorifed sms/pager/gps tracker network.

and actual licensed radio boomers can't do anything fun except talk about their heart medication on 2000w shortwave radios because fun is illegal and shit

Radio is relatively easy to trace, right? It could be done and I guess you could send encrypted data over radio

Technically yes, practically no. You'd have better luck with starlink satellites or wifi meshnet

Sorta but not really in practicality -- the baud rates of long-haul radio is too low to enable internet-like communications, and MUH LORA type things generally use higher frequencies that have too limited of range to enable truly worldwide communications without some other kind of link connecting small community(physical) networks

>>105768225
Yes, and encryption over radio is trivial to achieve.

define "internet" because i have a sneaking suspicion you don't mean an actual network but just a place to shitpost and complain about your life

Yes. And then the instant the glowies feel the need to fuck with you they'll just transmit something illegal and necessitate the law coming down and directly or indirectly make it illegal.
Or karens will do it for them.

governments literally maintain open channels for everyone to use and there's international agreement on frequencies that anyone is allowed to go out on, preferably for calling and emergency

No. Radio shit is more regulated than the internet. You must pass a govt test for a license to do anything that will travel. You must identify yourself by your government ID regularly. You shall not encrypt communications.

Then the FCC would have jurisdiction and they might be a little iffy about that. We already have LoRA, LTE-M, SigFox, etc.

Fat boomers with health issues would chime and complain that you haven't said your call sign in 11 minutes, which is in breach of the regulations, and they've notified the FCC.

Yes, certainly, encrypted digital data can be transmitted over radio. Apps can be hosted locally to receive said data and display it natively.

We could make it with the tech we got today. I suppose all we need is a decentralized catalog if you would. An index of frens, that would be like crypto. Everyone would have the same list. With this index we could have fun together, make websites and make frens. What do you think? Do you want to be my fren?
