The market sucks right now. I'm in IT and doing cloud certifications to try and make a lateral move to a different job, but I'm really worried. I did the certification route... A+, Network+, Security+... my first gig was doing volunteer work for a nonprofit that didn't have any tech people. It's a good avenue if you are just looking for things to put on your resume. If they use Office 365 or Google Workspace, see if they'll pay for you to get certified in their software stack.
The problem isn't really AI, it is that no one know what the landscape is going to look like it 12 months and corporate entities rely on stability. Most of the tech layoffs are from non-technical roles like recruiting, (Why do you need recruiters if you aren't going to hire anyone) HR and marketing...
Honestly, if you are just looking for unsolicited career advice, I would become an electrician instead, or something like welding.
If you want to do IT, I would highly recommend looking up events on MeetUp or other boards and just attending and get to know people. You are a lot more likely to get hired because you have a reference and are someone they would actually enjoy working with.
