Curtis isn't a tucker-tier grifter. I think he was more influenced by Max Weber and Christopher Lasch. LAsch's "culture of narcissism" is a pretty prophetic book about the problems of left wingers being sucked into the hyper-individualism of the 80's and "revolt of the elites" is a classic.
