The winner of Phainonbowl will make or break his writing to me. Personally I prefer nobody winning at all since he was never shown being that close to anyone. Any winner will feel forced as such.

Playable characters will have a role in the game and/or promoted online, males included. This is going to ick some waifu-only players regardless whether they skip the banner or the story.
Having both genders while all the characters being humanoid also means that the girls won't wear something that is deemed inappropriate, which again will ick waifu-only players. I've seen the spats and the recently censored character and was like not this shit again.
Personally i'm on the whatever side in this debacle since surely one or two males won't spell doom for the game, but i do hope they're bold enough to put on actual panties for the females.
