i feel like isometric 2D is extremely underrated. playing project zomboid i don't see anything negative about it. a lot of detail in objects and all it costs is drawing a single sprite. with 3d models that'd take a lot of triangles. also you don't get any weird uv stretching issues or anything like that. and also you don't have to do pbr maps for objects. it just looks good as it is. and it looks more artistic because of that.
is there a reason why isometric 2D is almost never used? i mean you can still mix it with low poly meshes for animated or freely rotated objects.
