The German "fly until you die" philosophy was actually hugely destructive. For ever 1 Hartmann or Rall there were hundreds of veteran pilots who got a couple of victories, got some experience and then died from making mistakes because of cockiness, tiredness, sheer war weariness or just bad luck and statistics. And they took their knowledge and skill to the grave with them.
The allied method of pulling veteran aces out of the front line and sending them to train new pilots meant that allied pilots were always benefitting from experience as well as first hand knowledge of the cutting edge of tactics, and this made a huge difference in the air. German new pilot attrition rates were horrific.
