Well there are certain limitations when you do not have international recognition as an independent country. In terms of things like having embassies, being able to participate in international competitions and organizations as an independent state, having a seat in the UN, etc etc
In terms of just your day to day life as an average citizen it will feel like it’s basically an independent country. That’s why most people are ok with maintaining the status quo rather than fighting a war.
