Rome Joins London as an Imperial Power
April 19, 1934

The Italian Civil War has ended with Ferdinand III's Kingdom of Italy achieving victory over the Italian Social Revolutionary Front (ISRF) led by Gabriele D'Annunzio. France under Jacques Doriot had supported D'Annunzio's ISRF against the monarchic Italian forces, sending thoughts of volunteers, tanks, and Automats through the Alps. Despite the ISRF's technological advantage, even wielding Teslapowered weaponry, they could not overcome the significant manpower advantage that Italy held. After a year-and-a-half of warfare, the war ended yesterday with the remaining ISRF forces surrendering in holdouts in the Alps. The loss comes as a major defeat for the Doriot's ultranationalist government. Doriot is reported to have blamed the defeat on purported Judeo-Italian elements within the ISRF. Last year, France's Armed Forces ousted Judaistic forces from the French military, claiming they were an fifth columnist threat to France.

The victory comes as a major political coup for Imperial Britain. Italy now has asked to join the Imperial Powers association, a German-British alliance that formed prior to the Great War that now is led by Britain. Germany left the alliance in the postwar period, but analysts suspect that should France or Russia invade Germany, Germany would seek to rejoin the Imperial Powers.

London has promised Rome that Britons will help man the fortifications along the Alps that expand over the French-Italian border. Even now, British soldiers depart England and make their way to the Italian peninsula. Should war break out in Europe, Italy may become an essential foothold for the British Expeditionary Force to make landfall.
