Their naming convention is very confusing. Some people call it 2024 5e despite many of the books coming out in 2025. Personally I call it 5.5e instead. I like a lot of the changes to races and it's very easy to bring 5e races to 5.5e but if you're wondering why they made some of the changes they did these images should help you understand the mindset.
