Are mobile suits obsolete? Not yet — but they’re evolving fast.

Despite massive losses on both sides during the One Year War, both the Earth Federation and Zeon continue to field and develop mobile suits. Why? Because MS units still offer unmatched maneuverability, firepower, and adaptability in space and terrestrial combat. They’re essential for urban warfare, ship boarding, and operating in varied environments — from space colonies to lunar surfaces.

However, the battlefield has changed. Beam weapons, remote-controlled funnels, and anti-MS artillery have made survival rates low for standard suits. Newtypes and ace pilots dominate, but most suits are still piloted by grunts with limited survival time. Mass production suits like GMs and Zakus are vulnerable when deployed without proper squad tactics or support from ships and recon drones.

Mobile suits aren’t obsolete — but lone-wolf tactics are. Survivability now relies on:

Armor and speed upgrades like Gundarium alloy and Minovsky flight systems

Team-based formations and better ECM support

Specialized MS variants for roles like sniping, heavy assault, and recon
