If someone truly loves something, then they will strike out with fury when their love is threatened, fueled by the hatred of whatever fuckhead would ever dare attack something they love.
I definitely care about these characters more than I ought to, but that love is what makes me so fucking furious when people stomp all over them. Love and hate go hand in hand, and anyone with a lick of empathy should be able to understand that.
