I know exactly what you feel because I've experienced that as well
However I'm not awake, I think because I decided to distract myself rather than continue to think about it
It's like Neo in The Matrix, after Morpheus shows him the truth, Neo gets disoriented and fearful and "crashes out" as the zoomzooms say, he likes and passes out
But what's interesting is he eventually comes to terms with it and accepts waking up. Whereas, you also have Cypher, who will do anything to go back to sleep.
I don't have any answers for you, unfortunately. I think I'm in the same boat though
