Are you talking about Return of the Living Dead? Night zombies were killed pretty easily. It's just that normal people aren't used to killing and are generally horrified by it, so they took a while to start doing it. Return zombies can't die no matter what, then burning them spreads the forever chemicals all over which could raise corpses or infect more people
