You're completely right, there is no real skill in RimWorld - you can overcome the highest difficulties by exploiting the game. It functions as and is advertised as a story generator, and I've never read or heard a good story that involved people being happy and content indefinitely.
Which makes it even more pathetic that you have to crank down anything that or annoys you or stands in your way to "winning". You might as well be playing Bloons TD or The Sims 2 if you have no interest in RimWorld's stories, but rather the cheap experiences that it can imitate through tower defense and dollhouse play.
