SA2 modding is super easy to set up. SA1 modding is a little more work, mostly because it mods the 2004 version of the game which you have to go get, not the steam version.
But modded I think both are the definitive versions of the adventure games. You get the lighting/textures from the dreamcast + the 60fps and QoL from the ports.
There's also like a 10 page super mod for the chao garden.
