It's not that uncommon. Whenever I have a buddy with me, I tell him to shut up and he is mute until I say "go on" or something similar. Usually when we drive through dense traffic on a street I haven't been yet. Or when I'm parking in tight spaces.

He's smart enough to understand this dynamic, which is nice.
