How long would it take me to learn martial arts? Aside from some rinky dinky kickboxing place run by who knows who, there are no decent places to learn a striking martial art where I live. It would be a shame to spend a couple years learning kickboxing from someone who is relatively a dumbass when it comes to kickboxing. I think my best bet would be to learn boxing (not kickboxing) due to local limitations. There is a brazilian jiu-jitsu place where I live, and it seems to be pretty decent and popular.

How long would it take to learn bjj to a point I'd be a fairly competent fighter? How much would I have to train specific to bjj? (I already lift.) How much time would I be investing? How likely would I be to injure myself, and how would I prevent injury?
