Sort of. You're on the right track, but you're stuck.
Babies cry. Crying is how they communicate their needs. When they cry, someone comes to comfort them. And from that, they gain two kinds of satisfaction. The first is reassurance that "When I express distress, someone will help me." And the second is the confidence that "I can influence my environment"

So what happens then?
They stop crying. They become silent. Even when their mother visits and leaves again, they don't react.

There's a special word for this state, and it's denial, I could ramble about it more but it's just thoughts while healing and reading these posts.
