Imagine a cube on a platform. It is not in any way affixed to the platform. If the platform were to move upward with some velocity, the cube would as well. If the platform were to suddenly stop, the cube’s velocity would continue to carry it upward until gravity brings it back down to the platform. Do you agree with this?
