That's mostly because the fearsome critters themselves are supposed to be goofy fellas doing ridiculous things. The one above for example doesn't have any joints in his legs, hence the stiff-walk, and pic rel is so ugly and so ashamed of being ugly, that he'll dissolve into a puddle of tears if anyone ever saw him.
