The VB creators are pretty open about how they just improvise and leave open-ended avenues in their stories so they always have story options for future events. Do you think they did a good job bullshitting their way through? If you didn't know any better, would you think the entire series was planned out from episode 1, or can you see a lot of the puppet strings?
