>each device appeals to a different kind of player, saying one sucks over the other I feel kinda undermines what the franchise is about.
Not that guy but I always hated the "everything is good" cop-out, people should be allowed to voice their gripes.
Personally I find the Uni disappointing due to a mix of >>11454761 combined with a few more things, the UI/menuing being much slower compared to the BW LCD entries (doubled by the fact that a lot of the "real" content is timed online content, so you end up having to wait for downloads and connecting to do things that are much snappier in old entries) which makes it feel much less pick-up-and-play, along with a bunch of carryovers from the Smart (my personal least favorite and the one I outright dislike) worldbuilding-wise that make the entry feel more "insular" (less focus on locales and the world of Tamagotchi and NPC characters are all that bland white bird thing instead of actually showcasing what the franchise is about).
There are some good things that came with the Uni, but they sort of feel like a double-edged sword. Customization's nice but in-turn baby, child and teen stages all have adult-sized bodies to be able to wear said cosmetics so the sense of growth is gone (though fast growths since the early Color era already made this an issue in a different way, this now extends visually), downloadable content is nice especially compared to physical DLC modules they used in the past, but them cheaping out on storage space and being unable to hold more than one DLC or even swap out while having a different DLC de-incentivizes ever using anything more than the free Berry Land or whatever comes bundled with the special shells since it means losing all your progress, and the rechargeable battery carried over from the Smart is nice, but still being required to take the entire device apart to replace it stinks.
It's a mixed bag. At the very least, I like it more than the Smart and gene mix entries.
