really was a mixed bag. Games were fun, and there was constantly shit coming out you wanted, but you could only buy a handful of it. After awhile, at least on ps2, the OEM controllers would poop out and youd have to struggle with the shitty ass third party stuff, and that would change your vidya taste based off what games would actually react to that shitty ass controller. also if you lacked internet like me alot of games had really asanine shit like pic related where you might have the completely correct thought of what to do but it wouldnt register and youd spend a whole afternoon getting a feel for it before either giving up and dropping the game there or powering through. Renting was alot better than the current landscape though since you could actually try shit out (sure you can sale the high sees now but it was alot easier then, no multi hour downloads), and almost every game had a unique control scheme instead of the defaults we're kinda used to now, made it fun being forced to get used to that stuff.

also gen alphas dont really understand the pain of gamestop covers and discs only working on random days. now they dont even have physical vidya really. i have noticed people watch less shit now that addictive short form content is at our fingertips. Felt like more people knew random shit just from movies being on cable or being stuck with the same 40 dvd's and the occasional blockbuster rental.
