But if Sonic wins DESPITE those flaws, then those aren't really flaws, at least not to me.
I think we have different definitions of the word "flaw", which is fine, since mine is pretty proprietary and unconventional.
To me, a flaw is related directly to the story you want to tell and the character development. It's an obstacle in the character's personality that is stopping them from achieving whatever it is that the narrative dictates is the "good ending".
If Sonic is reckless (Like in Lost world) but wins anyways and never has to change that part about him, I don't consider that a real flaw because the narrative doesn't treat it as one. And if the narrative doesn't do that, then character development can't happen.
If you lived in a world (One different from ours) which was ruled by a god who made it so being reckless and stubborn and having an ego were all rewarded or at least not punished, would you still consider these things flaws? No? Well, that's the world Sonic lives in.
Basically, what is a "flaw" is determined by the world. You're using a definition that relies on OUR world where certain things are punished, but Sonic lives in another where they aren't (as much).

Haven't finished that show (Too painful), but I know that Sonic is the only one who knows the earth rotates (And he does that annoying thing that shounen protags do where he just acts without telling anyone, and then everyone tries to stop him for 20 minutes only to find out that he was right and this could've been avoided if Sonic wasn't a spastic and just talked to people).
