To become a truck driver, you basically need to have a driving license with category C (heavy truck) or CE (heavy truck with heavy trailer), as well as a valid professional competence certificate (YKB) if you are going to drive in commercial traffic. The licensing and education itself to become a truck driver usually takes between 22 and 40 weeks, depending on the type of training and whether you choose to study full-time or part-time. The training includes both theory and practice, risk training, dangerous conditions driving and emergency procedures, and often includes on-the-job learning (actually for the most part, you spend 2-3 weeks as a "sit-in" and just watch a senior trucker do his/her job during that time.
