I saw it more as she latches onto the first person to give her attention/really care about her and then she’ll do whatever for that person no matter what. And then with Hiruko dead she didn’t feel like going on but also wanted to help the others like Hiruko helped her.

Said it before but I really don’t like how Hiruko treats her though. Especially after you learn Darumi doesn’t like being reminded of animal related things, but also goes to show how much she’s willing to put up with for even a little bit of affection/attention
