Of course it depends how sophisticated "she" is. If she has like three canned lines of dialogue and bumps into the furniture when I move it without telling her — ok, then probably not.

But I assume we're talking a lot better than that . . . and it would be absolutely fine

Just consider this:

CAN A DOG BE A GOOD COMPANION?

A dog loves you pretty unconditionally, assuming you treat it OK. It's fairly bright and has a personality but it's not THAT bright. It's limited.

Well, a dog can be a VERY good companion. Lots of old people would certainly be killing themselves without their dog or cat. They give out dogs to depressed veterans and stuff don't they? I've heard lots of stories that this can make all the difference.

OK . . . now,. a robot girlfriend of any reasonable sophistication can certainly have as much "depth" as a dog. But she also satisfies your sexual needs. (No jokes now.)

"But you would get bored with her sexually!"

NONSENSE.

Men can get sexual arousal from the crudest simulacra of femininity. Just photographs will do it. Just crude drawings will do it.

If a man is really starved for companionship a waifu pillow is better than nothing. Does he get bored and frustrated with that and rip it up? No, he doesn't.

A decent sexbot would be absolutely fine.

Also you could spend many happy hours on anonymous forums discussing custom software upgrades. Is her sense of humour a bit mechanical? Just download this patch and bingo.

Hundreds of the best programmers in the world would be doing NOTHING except writing sexbot code.

These things would be god-damned angels, I'm telling you.

Angels.

We just need to hold out a few more years . . .

[Given the option, I'm probably going for <pic attached>. Bubbly, uncomplicated, friendly, cheery. And if I get bored with her I just switch her off for an hour or two. Literally what the hell is wrong with this picture? NOTHING, that's what.]
